What Etsy fees look like on a real order

You sell a dozen decorated sugar cookies on Etsy for $48. Here is where the money goes before you count ingredients, labor, or packaging.

Listing fee (per sale) $0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of $48) $3.12
Payment processing (3% + $0.25) $1.69
Standard fees on this sale $5.01 (~10.4%)

You keep $42.99 of the $48 — before ingredients, labor, packaging, or shipping supplies. And if the order came through Offsite Ads (12–15%, mandatory for some shops), add up to $7.20 more: you keep $35.79.

$53.54 what you would need to list at to actually pocket $48 after standard fees — about $64.17 if a 15% Offsite Ads fee applies. Percentage fees mean you gross up the price, not bolt fees on after.

Typical US Etsy fees as of mid-2026. Fees vary by country, currency, and seller settings — check Etsy's current fee policy and your own statements. RecipePricer is not affiliated with Etsy, and this is not tax or accounting advice.

Etsy-specific costs bakers forget

Listing renewals $0.20/listing

Each listing renews for $0.20 when it sells or every 4 months — multi-quantity listings renew on every sale

Shipping materials $1.50–4.00/order

Sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and cushioning for cookies that survive the mail cost far more than farmers-market bags

Offsite Ads fee 12–15%/attributed order

Etsy advertises your listings off-platform and takes 12–15% of orders it attributes — mandatory above a revenue threshold

Etsy Ads budget $1–10/day

Optional on-platform ads many sellers run to get found — a real per-order cost if you use them

Product photography $0–50/listing

Etsy is a visual search engine. Props, backdrops, and your styling time are part of what each listing costs

Transaction fee on shipping 6.5% of postage

Etsy's transaction fee applies to what buyers pay for shipping too, not just the item price

Get your pricing right

Gross up, don't bolt on

Percentage fees compound: if you add 9.5% to your target price, Etsy takes 9.5% of the new higher price and you still come up short. Divide by (1 − fee rate) instead — to pocket $48, list at $53.54, not $52.56. The calculator does this automatically.

Decide your Offsite Ads stance before pricing

If your shop is under the revenue threshold, you can opt out of Offsite Ads. If you stay in (or must), decide whether to price every listing to survive a 12–15% ad fee or accept thinner margins on attributed orders. Either is fine — deciding after the sale is not.

Charge real shipping, and fee it

Etsy's transaction fee applies to shipping you charge, and "free shipping" just moves postage into your item price. Weigh a packed box, price the postage honestly, and remember the 6.5% on top of it when you set the shipping charge.

Common questions

How much does Etsy take from each sale?
For a typical US seller: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total (including shipping you charge), and payment processing of about 3% + $0.25. That is roughly 9.5% + $0.45 per order — before optional costs like Offsite Ads or Etsy Ads. Fees vary by country and change over time, so check Etsy's current fee schedule and your own statements.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?
Etsy advertises listings on places like Google and Facebook, and charges a fee on orders it attributes to those ads: 15% for most shops, 12% once a shop passes Etsy's revenue threshold (where participation also becomes mandatory). On a $48 order, that is up to $7.20 on top of standard fees. Check your Etsy account for your shop's exact status.
How do I price cookies or baked goods for Etsy?
Start from your true cost — ingredients, your hourly labor, packaging and shipping materials, and overhead. Then gross up for percentage fees: divide by (1 − fee rate) rather than adding the fee on top. A dozen cookies with a $56.71 true cost cannot profitably sell at $48, no matter how the fees are arranged.
Should I raise my prices to cover Etsy fees or absorb them?
Build them in. Fees are a real cost of the sale, like ingredients. The math: target take-home plus fixed fees, divided by (1 − percentage fee rate). To pocket $48 with standard fees, list at about $53.54. Absorbing fees is just choosing a lower hourly wage without saying so.
Is selling baked goods on Etsy worth it?
It depends on your margin after fees and labor, honestly counted. Etsy brings buyers you would not reach otherwise — that is what the ~10% is buying. It is worth it when your price covers true cost plus fees with profit left over, and not worth it when you price to match local pickup rates and quietly eat the difference.
Does this calculator include Etsy fees?
Yes. The calculator has an Etsy preset that pre-fills the listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing, and an optional Offsite Ads percentage — and every value is editable, so you can match your country's rates or your own statements. The preset values are starting points, not official Etsy figures.
